Borrowing Guidelines

Library patrons may borrow up to 20 items from the collection at a time. One attraction pass may be checked out to a patron’s card at a time. Exceptions to the borrowing limit may be made at the discretion of a library staff member or based on a patron’s category.

Most library materials are loaned for 14 days and may be renewed up to two times, unless another patron has placed a hold on the item. Attraction passes are loaned for three days.

How to check out items?

Since we are a self-serve library, check out may look very different than what you are used to at other libraries.

  • Patrons will take the items they wish to check out to the check out desk located by the front door.
  • Remove the cards from the envelopes on the back of the items.
  • Grab a blank card from the desk and write the date, your name and email. Please do not write on the cards from the books.
  • Paperclip the card with your info to the cards from the items and place it in the check out box located on the check out desk.

Computers

Davies Memorial Library provides access to free and open WiFi within and around the building. There are two public access computers for community members and patrons in the back of the library.

Printing & Scanning

Printing, scanning, and copying services are available in the library. The library does not charge for printing and copying, but donations are always appreciated. We ask that you please be mindful of your usage of library resources.

Interlibrary Loan

If we do not own a copy of the item you’d like to borrow, we may be able to obtain it for you via interlibrary loan. This free service enables us to borrow books from libraries around Vermont and, in some cases, nationwide.

  • Only patrons who are residents of Waterford and the surrounding towns may request interlibrary loan items.
  • Requests typically take 1-2 weeks to receive but can sometimes take 2-4 weeks for hard-to-find or popular items.
  • Brand new publications are not immediately available via ILL.
  • You will receive a phone call or email when the item has arrived. Items will be held at on the Reserved Table for two weeks.
